Water Chiller Maintance 2024
Oversight of water quality and care in water chillers can lead to clogging of the chiller's water pump and laser tube. This over time can reduce the laser tube power output as well as cause it to shatter which will need a replacement.
Water:
A good first step to ensure the prolonged life of your laser tube is to utilize distilled water instead of regular tap water to fill the chiller reservoir. Utilizing distilled water guarantees that the chiller tubing and laser tube will not accumulate minerals commonly found in conventional residential water. These deposits, over time help feed algae which too much in your water can impede adequate water flow. Remember that improper cooling can cause a steady decrease in laser power output until you ultimately shorten the lifespan of the tube.
Check the water flowing through the tube once in a while can help you catch algae or bubbles in the tube. If debris or algae build up the water will need to be flushed. The use of cleaning agents such as vinegar mixed with water (50/50) can be used to clean water lines. If you see big diameter bubbles running through your tube, make your your water reservoir is not empty. Big bubbles create heat pockets when the laser is firing which will cause your tube to crack.
Climate:
It is important to note that if your laser machine is located in a region that tends to have below-freezing temperatures, it is important that you take steps to prevent water inside the laser tube from freezing over. For this reason, it is recommended to do one of the following,
1. Drain the water from the tube.
2. Utilizing RV antifreeze and diluting 1:3 with water to prevent water from freezing.
3. Placing your machine in a temperature-controlled environment.
The natural expansion of water when it freezes has the potential to crack your laser tube. The hot water running through your laser tube reduces the laser power output shortening the lifespan of the tube. It is recommended to let the chiller cool off the water before beginning any work.
Bubbles:
The existence of bubbles creates heat pockets in the laser tube that can cause the tube to shatter. For this reason, it is important to keep the chiller's water reservoir full and use simple tactics like pinching the tubing to help remove any internal bubbles stuck in the laser tube.
Yearly maintenance:
Water in the chiller may evaporate and keeping an eye for this is important. To help you catch this, we recommend flushing the water once a year to maintain the integrity of the water quality in the water chiller.
